Balacade’s “From, Memory” album cover is an overlay of multiple images shot while living briefly in Los Angeles. The city, and the state of California, really inspires the entire album. LA is the perfect place because it’s so dystopian, yet always warm and sunny. I was listening to a lot of Neil Young when I wrote these songs, and also meeting lots of new people, and traveling alot; I also lost a family member that was a huge part of my life. I didn’t try and make these songs sound negative, or depressing, but I think they maybe turned out that way a little bit. That might have something to do with my small, isolated, one room studio I spent many late nights in recording this album.
With this album, I decided to record it all myself, and also play all of the instruments too. I bought a sparkly drum set, and bass guitar. I also borrowed a friends old Ace Tone organ, and you can hear a lot of that on here. If anyone is interested in these things, I used only Sure SM57 mics, and played an Epiphone Casino guitar, through a Fender Deluxe amp. I used a Tascam 4 track tape recorder to record most of it as well.
